President's Message
It is March 2022. The SD Prowlers are doing well. We are excited to see things open up in the hot rod world. We have cautiously ventured to the Grand Nationsl Roadster Show and most recently the Early Times Mid- Winter Run. I heard today that Escondido's Cruisn' Grand event has been permitted and will commence on April 1...Hooray!!
The Prowlers are preparing to host our 75th Anniversary Picnic on Saturday June 4 at El Monte Park. We will have a live band (The Ideas) playing favorite oldies. Big Dev will be there with his famous BBQ truck. We will have event t-shirts and free dash plaques for participant cars while they last.
This event will cost $3 per car (for the park)
As many businesses discovered adapting to pandemic restrictions there were new ways to do things. We had to give up meeting in our comfortable indoor restaurant and chose the outdoor setting at El Monte County Park in Lakeside, CA. Attesting to So Cal reputation for nice weather, we have not missed a meeting and at least half the members drive their hot rods. As of our meeting tomorrow March 3, 2022 we will have met 43 times outside with no rain.

I have been a Hot Rodder as long as I can remember. First starting out with model cars, then bicycles, motor cycles, and finally custom cars.
My dad was instrumental in my youth, as he was a sheet metal man. My interest in Hot Rods, got him interested as well. Together we built many custom cars, throughout the years. Along the way, I was able to meet and work with many talented people like Lee Bright and Bob McCoy. Their talents still influence me today.
I met my wife in high school and we married in 1974. Patti and our three kids, have all helped and supported me all these years, with my hobby, that turned into a successful business.
I am proud to a part of the Prowler's family. Attending the Prowler's Picnics in the 70's and 80's... I never thought I would actually BE a Prowler member someday. Thanks to my special friend and good neighbor, Calvin King, I am now a member of the, OLDEST HOT ROD CLUB ON THE PLANET!
And with a little push from my old buddy, Roger Honey, at one of the meetings, I was voted in. HOW COOL! Being the soft spoken person, that I am, I count on another good old friend, Bob DeBurn, to make my point heard. It is nice having a lot of great friends in this club.
My only hope is that the club continues for another 75 years. I even mentioned to my children, Cassandra, Kimberly and Carter... that I hope their generation, keeps the Hot Rod World, going.

Here I am in my VERY VERY first hot rod in the early 1950s.
Mark showed this picture that he doodled as a kid. Proves he was artistic AND a hot rodder from an early age.
I also build custom motorcycles. This picture was taken a long time ago at a Prowler's picnic. Note my t-shirt !
Here is a 58 Chevy wagon that Jesse Ybarra gave me. It was in a creek behind his house. This delivery was a fun car to have in 1976.
1974...My first shop truck! Lettered by Bob McCoy and exhaust system by Lee Bright
Here's another shop truck. I purchased it in 1976 BRAND NEW and drove it 3 miles to Lee Bright's Muffler shop ("no muff too tuff") where he heated the springs to radically lower it. This truck won several Best Paint wards and made the cover of Truckin' magazine
Drag Racing has always been one of my passions. The first drag race that I attended as a kid, was at Ramona Airport. I was about 13 years old.
In the 80s, It was time to go racing!
Here's a picture of me at Carlsbad Raceway in the 90s. I sure miss that track! It was nice and close! Life in the fast lane!
